Google Earth

Here are quick instructions on how to launch a fly-through of the Google Earth files available on the TDF Challenge website.

1) To view the Google Earth files of the training rides, you're going to need Google Earth. If you don't have it, get it here. Google has flavors for Windows, OSX, and Linux.

2) Download the ride files from the TDF Challenge website. Since I'm such a nice guy, here are the links again so you don't have to strain yourself using the 'back' button.

The Mt. Baldy Climb

The Mt. WIlson Climb

The Little Tujunga Canyon Climb

3) For those of you using Windows and OSX, double-click on the file you want to open. This should launch Google Earth and open the ride file. For you Linux users, it probably works the same if you working from the GUI. If not, I doubt you have any need for these instructions. Yeah...I went there.

4) When Google Earth opens with the ride file loaded, it should appear in the Places window under the "Temporary Places" header.

5) Click once on the ride name/icon. It should be the first item in "Temporary Places" and will end with the ".kmz" suffix.

Selct the File

6) With the ride selected, click the "play" arrow icon at the bottom of the Places window.

This will launch the fly-through. Be patient at the beginning; the camera will pause on the "Home" marker before starting the fly-through. There are pauses at each route section; sorry about that, but without purchasing the $400 super-version of Google Earth it's the best I can do.
